Fashion Recap: 2014 Emmy Awards Red Carpet – College Fashion

Fashion Recap: 2014 Emmy Awards Red Carpet – College Fashion

I decided not to do my usual Best and Worst looks from Emmy night. Instead I linked to College Fashion's post of the same subject. I definitely agree with their choices.

There were so many good looks; I loved Julia Roberts' couture beaded Elie Saab, Claire Danes' familiar looking but red Givenchy, and Taylor Schilling's stunning Zuhair Murad.

But like usual, Lena Dunham just can't get it right. She showed up with a new bleached blonde hairdo, combined with her pincess-y ombre gown and I was covering my eyes...

The show was a great hit, and all I kept thinking the whole show was, "I need to watch this, this and this show!" Which I don't have time for!

What were your favorites?

Splurge vs Steal: Distressed Boyfriend Shorts

Rag & Bone "The Boyfriend Shorts" - SHOPBOP, American Eagle Distressed Shorts, sold out - Gap (similar)

These distressed Rag & Bone boyfriend shorts have become so ubiquitous on fashion blogger's outfit posts I've written them off as overplayed. Don't get me wrong, I love a good, comfy, over-sized denim boyfriend short to wear all summer long.  What I find ridiculous, is women my age are forking over $200 for a.pair.of.shorts. I'm sorry, I don't play that way. Unless those shorts make my legs look like Emma Watson's, I'll take my $170 savings, and go on a shopping spree.

Enough about people spending their money foolishly, because frankly, that's their business. These American Eagle shorts have become a true staple this summer. Truthfully, I ordered them last summer, and they were TIGHT. But just like I like them, with every wear, they stretched out to the perfect baggy style, and I've worn them 2-3 times a week this summer. Now that's $35 well spent.

What's the most you've spent on shorts? Was it worth it?

Fab Find of The Week: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish in 330 Redgy c/o Influenster

If I could, in a perfect world, I would get a manicure every 2 weeks. But I don't have the money, and I like to think I could make a manicure last longer than 2 weeks. It took me forever to get on the "gel manicure" bandwagon. I really loved the results. A super fast drying time, no chips for weeks, but the terrible state of your nails after you take off the foil doused in acetone? SO not worth it. So I stopped.

There have been several at-home gel manicure systems since then, but this no-light system by Sally Hansen takes the cake. It's so simple. Two coats of the color of your choice (that's the hardest part, there's so many good ones!) and then one coat of the top coat. Did I mention the top coat dries in like a minute? It's great. No more planning your day around painting your nails.

I Found It: Wedding Guest Dress

Forever 21 Dress

I went to a wedding back in June and I got so many compliments both at the wedding, and on social media when I posted the pictures above. I actually purchased the dress from, wait for it, Forever 21 a while back and this was the first time I got a chance to wear it. The dress came in a hi-low style that I knew in 6 months would be out of style (and frankly, I didn't like to begin with) but I loved the print, so I had my alterations guy chop it off. It turned out great! The dress is now on sale, so make sure to grab it quick here!

How to Wear a Maxi Dress: Part 2 - With a Statement Necklace

Maxi Dress - c/o Conversation Pieces, Denim Vest - J.Crew, in Indigo Wash, sold out (similar), Sandals - Solesociety, Turquoise Necklace - Forever 21 (on sale!!), Gold Rings - FoxsieCo and Nordstrom BP

My second way to amp up a maxi dress is with a standout statement necklace. I love this particular one because it's a unique piece, stands out against every color, and turquoise is having a real moment right now. I wore this necklace every day in Cabo, and it's one of my favorite pieces I own. Of course, to avoid being too matchy matchy with the hues, you can definitely chose another style or color necklace. I just wouldn't chose anything too glam for this dress.

Happy accessorizing!

Conversation Pieces is offering FREE SHIPPING through August 17 as apart of their Back To School Sale! Make sure to check them out here!

Birthday Dress

Floral Dress - J.Crew, sold out (similar), Sandals - Bucco via Hautelook, Envelope Clutch - Urban Expressions via Marshalls (exact), Necklace - Lulu Frost for J.Crew, old (shop Lulu Frost for J.Crew here), Rings - bought in Mexico, Nail & Rhinestone Bracelets - Forever 21, Cartier Inspired Bracelet - Heart Boutique

Tomorrow is my 26th birthday, which is daunting to write, but considering the past year, it's been quite....good. The biggest battle was Alex graduating from grad school, something everyone was looking forward to. Our newest battle is finding out what next? Where do we want to go from here? What do we want to do? Where do we want to live? It's so scary to think about moving away from out of our comfort zone, but so exciting to start our new life.

So tomorrow I plan on toasting to my older age (eeek :/ ) wearing this amazing floral dress and new Louis Vuitton crossbody (thanks Alex!) At least I will be starting off this new chapter on a high note. ;)
