How to Wear a Maxi Dress: Part 1 - With Denim

I thought I would post a series called "How to Wear a Maxi Dress". So over the next few weeks, there will be a new post on how to take a great maxi, and step it up a notch. Maxi dresses (and skirts for that matter) are one of those trends that are fun, but you really have to wear it correctly in order to pull it off. Am I right?

First step, get your blank canvas which is a maxi dress. I picked a fun printed one from Conversation Pieces, but for beginners, having a solid print one is fine too (I love my solid black ones)!

Second, layer with denim! I am wearing my handy J.Crew denim vest, but when I say denim, I mean denim vest, denim jacket or even a chambray shirt! The best thing about this combination is it always matches no matter what pattern or color the maxi is, and how effortlessly cool it looks.

Sweater Weather

Sweater - c/o Conversation Pieces, White Jeans - Old Navy, Sandals - SoleSociety, Necklace - Jeweliq, sold out (similar), Handbag - Michael Kors

Whenever the temperature drops to that sweet spot, I immediately jump to the chance to wear my sweaters again. I hate the heat and live for the fall and winter here. However, since the spring and summer here is pretty brutal, I still want to have the option of a long sleeve at night, when it can actually cool down quite a bit. I liked this sweater because it's super light weight, and the sheer detail and slit on the side are a fun touch. I love these white skinnies, Old Navy really nailed it with the RockStar denim. I decided to go minimal with accessories and do a pure black and white ensemble, which you really can't go wrong with!

Easy Breezy

Jeans - Gap, T-Shirt - J.Crew, Scarf - J.Crew, Sandals - Jessica Simpson, Handbag - Zara, old (similar), Bracelets - Conversation Pieces, old (similar)

On a day off when my schedule consists of running around town doing errands, this is most likely my outfit of choice. Throwing on a t-shirt and jeans is great, but anyone can do that. Throwing on this bright J.Crew scarf definitely does the trick. I've never gotten more compliments on an accessory before. It also kinda hides the fact that you aren't really trying everywhere else. ;) Stack on the easiest and cutest bracelets and a trendy pair of lace up wedges. The bag was a impulse buy during Zara's sale before I went to Cabo last year and it's served well as a trusty travel bag and purse. Easy as pie.

What's your go-to easy look?
